Wow. Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow.

Wow. I have read all of Harlan Coben’s “Bolitar” novels, and adored them. Gorgeously written, fascinating characters and plots. Stunning accomplishments. But, they did not even remotely prepare me for THIS. “FOOL Me Once”. Wow. It is now one of my top ten favorite books. Ever. And, I read six books a week. I am Fifty years old. But, this book is astounding. Utterly audacious yet entirely plausible. Shocking, surprising, thrilling, moving, and laugh-out-loud funny. This book is so astounding that when my jaw wasn’t hanging open, I was either laughing my butt off or wiping the tears from my face. The sheer courage it must have taken to write this book. Audacity meets unparalleled literary craft. Forget all of those “Girl” books that become international sensations; “Gone”, “On A Train”, “With The Dragon Tattoo”, “Who Hungrily Eat A Sandwich”, THIS is THE mystery-thriller of the NEW MILLENNIUM. Also, of note, this is the very first time “The Way This Novel Ends” – and I certainly won’t give it away here – has been JUST right and completely satisfying. Shocking, yes. Sad, YES. But, also, completely correct, earned, inevitable, oddly comforting and GORGEOUSLY BRAVE. The book could have, in an epilogue, undone the perfection of it’s ending. I’ll bet there were editors and publishers who encouraged Mr. Coben to write such a prologue. Regardless, the fact that he DIDN’T gives me hope for The American Novel. You MUST read this book. You simply must. It is a living testament to the fact that popular entertainment can be art. That art can be a story. That a story can, as all good art can do, change you. I am not exactly the same person I was before reading “Fool Me Once”. Something of indeterminate size and importance, shifted inside me. And, most of all, I would like to thank Mr. Coben for trusting US enough to write this book.

Wish I had the ability to comment on this book in the talented vernacular that Harlan Coben always provides. His is truly the master of writing mystery novels. His characters grab you one by one and you simply can’t let go even after you finish. You become involved in the novel and when it is over, you want more and are always shocked, surprised and sometimes saddened. But it is done so well. “Fool Me Once” was simply spectacular. There were so many twists and turns that were completely unexpected. I even gave this one to my husband and he actually cried at the end. Never happened before. Often unusual that a male writer who is loved by women, is enjoyed just as immensely by men.

Great book. What can I say? Coben does it again. I won’t talk about the book so there aren’t any spoilers. Buy this book. You won’t be disappointed. My only problem with a Coben book is you can’t stop reading them. I read this one in 2 days. I wanted to read it in one but had other things to do.

I love the way Mr. Coben writes. I read so much for work I spent 20 years reading tech books & student papers.

Now that I am able to read for pleasure I always feel I can count on Mr. Coben to entertain and involve me in his characters and stories. I have read most of his work and his ability to become his characters and speak with a realistic voice. I hate the word authentic, because it has become a cliché. I hate to admit it, I do believe it best describes his style and creativity. I like the main character, though we are as different as is possible, but I cried and understood that sort of pain. Of you like a mystery, I recommend this book most highly. Enjoy may not exactly fit, but worth the time.

Coben does it again.

With lots of twists and turns, complications and characters, this one had me hooked from the beginning. If you like a great story, and it happens to be a good mystery as well, I think you will enjoy this as much as I did.

I am a huge fan of this author. I have always enjoyed his book. This one even surpassed the others; I couldn’t put it down. To say it wasn’t predictable is a gross understatement. Generally, I’m not easily surprised but this one did.

Great book full or twists and turns…I kept me riveted until the very end. Great ending for a well developed character…her legacy will line one through her grandchild and namesake.
