well, my firestick has been great since day one, but over the past few days i’ve been rearranging my home a/v equipment and resituating devices. i moved my firestick from behind the tv to using an hdmi extension and placing it in my entertainment center, and started noticing massive temperature increases. i have mounted cooling fans and airflow where the device is, and no troubles with my other dongle devices. over the past 24 hours i’ve been researching cooling methods and heatsinks…and i just checked on it again after plugging it back in to test ambient temps (it’s been too hot to even touch when plugged in) and it seems it gave up the ghost…in the form of melting.

I just got this a few days ago, and very impressed with how lightweight it is! The device has taken all the best things and compacted it into a stick that take up minimal space. The interface is quick and easy to use, and the image quality can be great if you have a faster internet connection is fast. More storage space, not only keep things running smooth, but also store more apps or games etc. Big surprise!!! You can use any of the thousands of paid and free apps, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, News and soon. It work better than other devices at this price point. In a words, I’m completely satisfied with it. So highly recommend it!!!

I’m loving my Fire Stick and the possibilities it holds for “cutting the cord”, but I have had a few issues with it. I can’t be sure if they’re all related to the stick, or if they might be app-related, but I think there’s a little of both going on.

If You Have Prime, You Need This Stick!

If you have Amazon Prime, this is a must have! I installed this stick effortlessly to a Sharp large screen LED TV. Sharp initially tried to enter the SmartTV app space but backed out around 2013 or so. That left me with a “dumb” TV. Since I have Amazon Prime I ordered this stick and….voila!…I’ve turned the Sharp TV into a magnificent entertainment machine. The Fire TV stick loads shows quickly and has a nice interface. You can add apps either via the stick or via your Amazon account accessed via your computer (which I find more convenient). The remote is slim, easy to operate, and provides good button feedback. I installed the Fire TV app to my Android phone, Kindle, and Ipad with no issues. The voice feature, especially Alexa, is great with the phone/tablet, but I find I prefer the remote for navigating around with the stick. I have a cable subscription (and only one cable box) and this allows me to extend cable subscription services (such as ESPN, HBO, Showtime, etc.) to a second TV without paying a second cable box subscription, so this stick makes me money! I use the Stick primarily to access Netflix, Amazon Prime Videos, HBO/ESPN/Showtime, and some of the other news and movie apps. Wish I would have purchased this stick a long time ago! Just received an e-mail from Amazon that my older Vizio TV will no longer be supported with its current Amazon app (due to obsolescence of the older Vizio TV interface) so it looks like I might have to purchase another stick. Highly Recommended!

It works great for what it does, but I have to give slightly mixed reviews. The billing by many as a great way to “cut the cable” may be over stated. Yes, there is lots and lots of programing out there available to view, but the whole Kodi thing is not easy to understand and once I eventually did figure out how to make it work and receive programs I was left with a “is that all there is?” feeling. I want to be able to view decent programs and movies and there certainly is lots out there, but here in Middle-America what good are TV Uganda, Argentina Football Channel, Philippines 1, 2, & 3 to me? Oh wow, golly-gee-whiz, perhaps, but on a daily basis I can’t use ’em. And getting everything set up reminds me of trying to go BACK from a current OS or Windows-based computer to the days of DOS commands on a green or amber monitor! Cable programming is easy and user friendly, but those robber baron, thieving, con artist, lowlifes at Comcast, Spectrum, and the like are continually hiking their prices and not providing any more or better service for their exorbitant fees. Is this the way to beat them? Not sure yet…

we love it

I had high hopes for this unit and, to a large degree, they were fulfilled; however, there are a couple issues that should be addressed.

I’ve used several streaming devices, but the ones I use most often are Amazon’s Fire Sticks. I’ve had two of these for about 18 months, and they work well. I’ve had an AppleTV for longer, and I can honestly say that’s a better piece of equipment. However, when factoring in the cost and how often I use each – the Fire Stick wins.
